Unfortunately, many people who purchased legitimate copies of Microsoft Office found themselves receiving a message stating that “this copy of Microsoft Office is not genuine” every time they attempt to run a Microsoft Office application. Fortunately, the work around for this problem is fairly straight forward.

As always, you should do your best to resolve your Microsoft Office licensing issue before attempting to remove the Office Genuine Advantage Notifications update KB949810. 1. Close all Microsoft Office applications and click on Start => All Programs => Accessories => Command Prompt. Windows Vista and Windows 7 users must use the “Run as administrator” option.

2. Paste the following into the command prompt and press Enter; MsiExec.exe /X{B2544A03-10D0-4E5E-BA69-0362FFC20D18}

3. Reboot the computer and run a Microsoft Office application.

You should no longer receive an error message stating that  “this copy of Microsoft Office is not genuine.”

How To Block The Installation Of The Office Genuine Advantage Notifications Update KB949810

You can use this procedure to ensure that you will no longer be prompted to install KB949810.

1. Double click the Windows Update icon and select the Custom Install (Advanced) option.

2. Remove the check next to Office Genuine Advantage Notifications (KB949810) and click on install.

3. You will be informed that “Updates that aren’t selected will not be installed.”

4. Place a check in the box next to “Don’t notify me about these updates again” and click on OK.

You will no longer be prompted to install the Office Genuine Advantage Notifications Update KB949810.
